How Are Those Specialist Studies?

Well folks, you have less than a week before the specialist studies are due in. I hope that you have been working hard there. I am a little concerned that I have not heard from any of you over the holiday, but maybe you just think that you are all super talented. Just do not bombard me with questions next week!! I am looking forward to reading these, you are a talented bunch after all!

miss its Michael M and i was just needing a bit of help with the reason why the wee death stories etc are written at the end of every chapter in Way to go...is it just to show his research and keep the theme of death or is there more to it?

Hi Michael.

If you look carefully at these short segments they all describe death, or different traditions regarding death in different cultures. Particularly Eastern tradition. This is partly because Spence has an interest in Eastern culture (check out his haikus!) but also because it is helping to show Neil's changing perceptions of death. Remember that he is trying to figure out what death is and so it makes sense that he would want to investigate other cultures and beliefs to see what they think death is or what it involves. See if there is any link between one of these little narratives and another. Are they telling a story themselves? Are they telling a story when pieced together? What do they tell you about the character himself?
